Editorial policy: primary sources, checked dates and corrections

By Chris

Every figure on this site traces back to a primary source, with the date we last checked it. This page explains how that works, how we compare savings apps, what we refuse to publish and how to get something corrected.

How we research

Figures come from primary sources only. For Chip that means getchip.uk: each account’s own page, the pricing page, the refer a friend terms and the Group Terms of Business. For other providers it means each provider’s own rate and terms pages. For Bank Rate it is the Bank of England; for ISA and tax rules, gov.uk and HMRC; for deposit protection, the FSCS; for regulatory status, the FCA register. We do not repeat a figure from another review site, forum or news story as fact.

Every figure has a source URL and the date we checked it, recorded in one place and pulled into the pages from there. That means a rate cannot be updated on one page and forgotten on another. The Sources block at the foot of each page lists the documents behind it. Figures across the site were last checked on 16 October 2026.

Boosted rates

Savings apps often lead with a new-customer rate that includes a temporary boost. We never show a boosted rate on its own. It always appears with the standard rate underneath and how long the boost lasts: for example, the Smart Cash ISA pays 4.68% AER for 12 months, then 3.50% AER. The guide to introductory bonus rates explains why this matters, and the Chip interest rates page applies it to every Chip account.

When sources disagree

Providers’ own pages do not always agree with each other. When that happens, we say so rather than picking the more flattering number. For example, Chip’s about page gives 500,000 registered users, while some of its product pages still give an older, lower figure. Where a claim is the provider’s own, we attribute it: Chip says its Prize Savings Account offers 3.5x better odds than Premium Bonds, and the Prize Savings page gives the basis Chip uses.

For competitors, some figures can only be found in third-party reporting. We mark those as unverified and say who reported them, and we never present them as the provider’s own.

How we compare apps

Comparisons cover the same things every time: the headline easy-access rate with its standard rate and boost length, the Cash ISA rate on the same basis, withdrawal rules, who holds the money and how the FSCS applies, subscription costs, how autosave or round-ups work and what they cost, prize savings and the sign-up offer. We do not score or rank providers with stars or points. Instead each page says who each option suits, including where a competitor is the better choice. The best savings apps comparison shows the approach.

First-hand versus researched

Chris uses Chip’s savings accounts, the Cash ISA and autosave on the free plan. First-hand experience appears only in boxes headed “From my account”, written in the first person. Everything else is written in the third person and based on published sources. We do not fill gaps in Chris’s experience with guesses. If we do not know a detail, the page speaks in general terms or leaves it out. The about page lists what is first-hand.

What we never publish

  • Testimonials, star ratings or invented quotes. No “what users say”, and no rating markup for search engines. Where Trustpilot is mentioned, it is in plain text with a source.
  • Investment promotion. This is a savings site. Chip’s investment accounts appear only as a neutral list: a Stocks and Shares ISA, a General Investment Account and a pension. With investments, your capital is at risk.
  • Promises about the bonus. We never describe a sign-up bonus as certain or effortless. Chip’s £50 is paid at Chip's discretion, and every page that discusses it says who qualifies.
  • Provider branding. No logos, app screenshots or imitation of an app’s design. Provider names appear in plain text.
  • Paid content. No sponsored posts, guest posts or link exchanges. The how we make money page explains why.

Update cadence

  • Monthly: Chip reissues its referral offer with new dates, usually each month. In the last week of each month we check the new terms, Chip’s rates and its pricing, and refresh the savings app offers page and the Chip rates page.
  • After each Bank of England decision: Chip’s rates track Bank Rate (currently 3.75%), so we update affected rates and post a dated entry in the news section.
  • Quarterly: we re-check every competitor figure.

Each page shows the date it was last updated. A page’s date only moves when its content changes.

Corrections

If you spot a wrong figure, a broken link or something out of date, email hello@savingsmadeeasy.co.uk. A link to the source that shows the correct figure helps us fix it quickly. We aim to check and correct within a few working days, update the page’s date, and, where the change is material, note it in the news section.

Use of AI

We use AI tools to help draft and edit text. We do not use them as a source. Chris reviews what is published, every figure is tied to the primary document listed in the Sources block, and external links are checked to exist before they go live. Where a drafting tool cannot know something, such as a detail of Chris’s own experience, that detail is left out or asked for rather than filled in.

Not financial advice

Nothing on this site is financial advice or a personal recommendation. It is general information about how UK savings apps work and one saver’s experience of one of them. Whether an account suits you depends on things we do not know, so read the provider’s terms before you open one, and speak to a regulated adviser where the decision matters. The is Chip safe page explains who holds Chip savers’ money and how FSCS protection applies.
